How to Build an Anesthesia Care Plan and Export PDF or Word
By Conor Early, CRNA, creator of GlottaVue Anesthesia.
A useful anesthesia care plan connects the procedure, the patient's known conditions and the decisions that need review. GlottaVue's care-plan builder organizes that work into stages, then exports a PDF for sharing or printing and a Word document for further editing.
This guide updates our September 18 development entry with the workflow as of September 30, 2026. The surgical-condition picker described below is part of the iOS TestFlight 1.6.5 (126) preview; public-store versions may differ.
1. Start with known information and the reason for surgery
Enter non-identifying demographics and the available history, including conditions, home medications, allergies and prior procedures. Select the planned procedure. In the updated builder, select the Condition requiring surgery beside it so the plan can distinguish the surgical indication from other medical problems.
Read how surgical pathophysiology fits into the care plan. Leave missing information unresolved rather than treating an empty field as a normal finding.
2. Review assessment, technique and medications
Work through the assessment and record the decisions you can support. Review the selected procedure and disease references, planned anesthetic technique, airway approach, monitoring, fluids and recovery considerations. In the Medications step, review the phase selections from preparation through emergence and recovery.
The offline builder assembles your selections and reference material. It does not independently diagnose the patient, check every interaction or settle conflicting recommendations. Medication choices and any reference doses need review against the actual clinical context and local practice.
3. Choose what belongs in the exported plan
Use Print sections to include the sections you need. Review the Plan tab for repetition, unfinished decisions and material that is not relevant to the assignment or case discussion. This keeps the document focused without hiding information that still needs clarification.
For a student assignment, start with your program's requirements. Explain the rationale in your own words and have the final plan reviewed through your usual supervision process.
4. Export PDF or editable Word
- Export PDF / print: creates a document with a fixed layout for review, sharing or printing.
- Export editable Word (.docx): creates editable text and tables so you can adapt the document to your program's format.
Export happens when you choose it, and you select the destination through your device's sharing options. Review the exported file itself before sharing it.
Where optional AI synthesis fits
You can assemble the offline draft without an AI request. Optional AI synthesis is a separate online step that refines the supplied non-identifying information and draft. Review its reasoning, cited material and missing information before using the result. See AI synthesis, sources and review.
